The Engineered Heavy Construction Division of Leo Alarie & Sons Construction Ltd. offers both public and private clients a versatile range of civil engineering construction services. We efficiently develop innovative and economical solutions for the industry's demands and have contributed significantly, over several decades, to the infrastructure of Ontario.

Our division encompasses an established staff of seasoned engineers and skilled site supervisors. We place a strong emphasis on safety, planning, efficiency, adherence to schedule, cost control, and customer satisfaction. Our diverse client base has benefited from this division's extensive experience, fluid organization, flexibility, and its capability to to include the expertise of the other company divisions of Leo Alarie & Sons Construction Ltd..

We offer the following services through out Engineered Heavy Construction Division:

  • Concrete, steel, wood and Bailey type bridge construction, removal or demolition
  • Design and install pipe and H-pile foundations, sheet pile cofferdams and retaining walls
  • Concrete construction, concrete repair and concrete demolition
  • Management of complex or multi-trade projects requiring a high degree of planning, engineering and coordination (e.g. power and industrial sector projects)

Engineering Projects

Concrete for Abitibi Consolidated Generating Station

(Iroquois Falls, Ontario)

Phase 2 of this project was recently completed with concrete being poured for bases to hold 9 new generators. Concrete was poured in stages so that shoring only supported a one-meter depth of concrete. A total of 2500 cubic meters of concrete was poured along with 5000 cubic meters in Phase 1.

Porcupine Joint Venture Crushing and Grinding Expansion

(Timmins, Ontario)

Leo Alarie & Sons Construction Ltd. has recently completed a job with the Porcupine Joint Venture to expand its crushing and grinding operations. This project was a fast-tracked schedule with significant changes made after the tender, but no change to the already short completion date. Our engineers devised a temporary support system which allowed us to accommodate the schedule.

Rehabilitation of Bridge Piers Over Nipigon River

(Nipigon, Ontario)

Leo Alarie & Sons Construction Ltd. has been working on bridge rehabilitation for CP Rail. Work includes rehabilitation of the piers which support the bridge over the Nipigon River.

Gladu - Hwy 69 Four Laning

Gladu - Hwy 69 Four Laning

A joint venture project for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, managed by Leo Alarie & Sons Construction Ltd. with partner Aecon Construction & Materials, completed construction of the first stretch of four-laning of Hwy 69, 10 km south of the four corners in Sudbury, southerly for 2.4 km, one year ahead of schedule.

Shawmere - Hwy 101

Shawmere - Hwy 101

Project for Ontario Ministry of Transportation was located 30 km east of Chapleau, Ontario and encompassed a 21.8 km of restoration of Highway 101. 16 km was shave and pave, 5.8 km was new design, and also completed installation of 38 Centerline Culverts.

Porcupine Joint Venture East End Road Project

Porcupine Joint Venture East End Road Project

The road bed for the bypass around the Pamour pit on Highway 101 East has recently been completed. This road will allow for expansion of the pit through the existing Highway 101.

Montcalm Water Treatment Ponds

Leo Alarie & Sons recently completed the construction of Water Treatment Ponds for the Montcalm Mine Project in the Timmins area.

Langmuir Multiplate Overpass

Langmuir Multiplate Overpass

Drilling and blasting of new road alignment on which a 5m high by 12m wide by 66m long multiplate culvert was assembled on poured-in-place concrete footings. It will serve as an underpass for the local traffic while PJV's Cat 785c 150-ton trucks are hauling ore from the new superpit.

Continuation of Divided Highway (South River, ON)

After completion of the bypass around Trout Creek, Leo Alarie & Sons Construction Ltd., together with Aecon Construction, were awarded the contract for the next stretch of divided highway from Trout Creek to South River, Ontario for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Trout Creek Bypass on Hwy 11

Leo Alarie & Sons Construction Ltd., together with Armbro Construction (now Aecon Construction), completed a 7.9 km stretch of divided highway around Trout Creek, Ontario in the Fall of 2002. This project for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation was part of the ongoing work to connect the divided Highway 11 corridor between Powassan and Huntsville.
